Your innkeeper, Rebecca Kingsley, grew up in a small, rural village in Ohio. She went on to graduate from the University of Cincinnati before moving to Hawaii to work for the Hyatt Regency in Honolulu and Maui. A one-year sabbatical in 1981 to study the up and coming California wines also introduced her to the exceptional beauty and attractions of the Napa Valley, which became her new home.
Rebecca's seemingly boundless energy was tested over close to eighteen years as she worked evenings at the fine restaurant at Domaine Chandon and ran her own business during the day. Through "Wine Country Weddings" she coordinated the wedding celebrations of thousands of couples in settings from serene to spectacular at private wineries and other romantic locales throughout the valley.
"I grew up appreciating good food, eventually learning how to make all my own jams, jellies and preserves. And I make thickest and tastiest champagne apple butter you've ever had. My own recipe!"
Since selling her profitable business in 1998, Rebecca has kept herself busy running Mille Vigne Villa and trying to keep up with all the wonderful fruit that is grown on her property. Besides the namesake thousand vines of Pinot Noir, she grows quince, olives, figs, French plums, white peaches, pears, apples and cherries. Rebecca uses a lot of her own fruit to make her specialty preserves and butters for her delighted guests to enjoy on their breakfast breads.
"I love it here and you will too. Even while I'm writing this, the owls are calling back and forth to one another and the crickets are singing. It's not unusual to hear the coyotes' cry at dusk or to hear the chatter of grey squirrels in the morning. All very soothing, I might add, and just another reason why it's so sweet up here on the mountain. I look forward to sharing it with you!"
